Denver Firearms Training

Professional Firearms Training for Denver Students

Owning or carrying a firearm comes with serious responsibilities. Good training should do more than help you complete a requirement. It should help you understand your firearm, handle it safely, make better decisions, and perform essential techniques with confidence.

Ragnar Tactical offers firearms training for Denver residents who want clear instruction from a knowledgeable team with real teaching and operational experience. Students learn through classroom education, demonstrations, guided drills, and live-fire practice when included in the selected course.

Certified instructors provide expert guidance while helping students develop skills at an appropriate pace. The training environment is professional, welcoming, and focused on progress. New shooters receive patient instruction without unnecessary pressure, while experienced students are challenged to improve technique, judgment, accuracy, and consistency.

Which Denver Firearms Training Class Is Right for You?

New Shooter Accelerator Workshop

The New Shooter Accelerator Workshop is designed for people who have never fired a pistol or who want a calmer introduction before joining a longer course.

This beginner-focused class covers:

  • Safe firearm handling
  • Basic range rules
  • Marksmanship fundamentals
  • Loading and reloading
  • Clearing common malfunctions
  • Building confidence with a pistol

The goal is to help each student create a safe foundation and become more comfortable around firearms. No prior shooting experience is required.

Basic Pistol and Concealed Carry Permit Class

The Basic Pistol and CCW Permit class is for first-time permit applicants, newer gun owners, and experienced shooters who want to strengthen their fundamentals.

Students work with a semi-automatic pistol or revolver while learning handgun basics, firearm safety, marksmanship, legal considerations, and practical defensive skills.

This in-person class includes live range training and is structured to meet Colorado’s current state required training for an initial concealed handgun permit application. Students who successfully complete the required instruction, written testing, and live-fire qualification receive a training certificate for the permit application process.

Concealed Carry Renewal and Refresher Courses

Current permit holders can choose a renewal or refresher course based on their experience and training needs.

Ragnar Tactical offers options for confident carriers who need focused recertification and students who prefer a more complete review of handgun fundamentals, firearm safety, live-fire qualification, and current Colorado law.

Refresher courses can also help identify weak habits that may have developed since your last class. The goal is not only to renew a permit. It is to help you carry with better judgment, safer handling, and stronger shooting skills.

Advanced Pistol Classes

Advanced pistol courses are designed for students who have already developed dependable fundamentals and are ready for more demanding training.

Depending on the course, instruction may include:

  • Shooting while moving
  • Use of cover and concealment
  • One-handed shooting and weapon handling
  • Drawing from a holster
  • Engaging multiple targets
  • Low-light shooting techniques
  • Positional shooting
  • Stress-based drills
  • Vehicle-based exercises
  • Real world scenarios and decision drills

These courses are physically and mentally more demanding than beginner carry classes. Review all prerequisites, equipment requirements, and ammunition requirements before registering.

Rifle and Carbine Classes

Rifle and carbine training is available for shooters who want to improve safe weapon handling, marksmanship, reloads, malfunction clearing, movement, positional shooting, and use of cover.

Course options range from basic carbine fundamentals to advanced defensive applications. Students may work on techniques such as transitions, shooting on the move, equipment setup, positional shooting, and engaging targets at different distances.

Precision rifle training is also available for students interested in long-range shooting. Topics may include optics, range estimation, wind evaluation, and positional shooting at distances of up to 500 yards.

Tactical Shotgun Training

Tactical shotgun courses help students understand shotgun operation, safe handling, loading, reloading, ammunition selection, marksmanship, and defensive use.

Training is available for shooters who own a pump-action or semi-automatic shotgun and want professional instruction instead of relying only on independent range practice.

Self-Defense and Specialized Courses

Ragnar Tactical also offers self-defense classes, active threat response training, legal considerations classes, gun cleaning education, and other specialized courses.

These classes help students expand their knowledge beyond basic pistol operation or concealed carry. Availability varies, so check the class calendar for upcoming events, locations, prerequisites, and required equipment.

Does Ragnar Tactical Meet Colorado Concealed Carry Training Requirements?

Colorado’s concealed handgun training requirements changed on July 1, 2025. An initial concealed handgun training class must be conducted in person and provide at least eight hours of instruction.

A qualifying initial class must include required firearm safety and legal topics, a written competency exam, and a live-fire shooting exercise taught by a verified instructor.

Ragnar Tactical’s initial CCW class is structured around these current requirements. The curriculum combines classroom instruction with practical range drills so students can demonstrate knowledge, safe handling, and handgun competency.

Required and related topics include:

  • Knowledge and safe handling of firearms and ammunition
  • Safe storage and child safety
  • Safe shooting fundamentals
  • Federal and Colorado firearm laws
  • Colorado law related to self-defense and use of force
  • Conflict avoidance and decision-making
  • Interaction with law enforcement
  • Live-fire qualification
  • Written competency testing

Denver concealed handgun permit applicants may use a qualifying certificate issued by a verified instructor from any Colorado county, subject to the current application requirements of the permitting authority.

After completing class, students must still submit their application and required documents through the appropriate permit process.

Ragnar Tactical provides the training and completion certificate. Ragnar Tactical does not issue the concealed carry permit.

Who Leads the Firearms Training?

The quality of a firearms class depends heavily on the person teaching it. A long list of topics means little if the instructor cannot explain them clearly, correct unsafe habits, or help students perform under pressure.

Ragnar Tactical’s lead instructor, Sergeant Graham Dunne, served as a United States Marine before completing a 27-year police career.

His professional background includes:

  • Eight years as a SWAT officer and sniper
  • Eight years as a full-time police academy instructor
  • Pistol, rifle, and shotgun instruction
  • Self-defense instruction
  • Tactical medical training
  • Active threat response education
  • Training for civilians, military personnel, and law enforcement officers
  • Competitive shooting experience
  • Firearms instruction since 1999

Sergeant Dunne founded Ragnar Tactical in 2002 and continues to teach throughout the year.

This combination of operational experience and professional teaching experience gives students access to instruction grounded in safety, practical application, and clear communication.

What Will You Learn in a Denver CCW Class?

The exact curriculum depends on the class selected, but Ragnar Tactical’s concealed carry training goes beyond a basic lecture.

Students develop skills through explanation, demonstration, repetition, coaching, and live-fire drills.

Firearm Safety and Responsible Handling

Students learn the primary firearm safety rules and how to apply them during:

  • Loading and unloading
  • Storage
  • Transportation
  • Range use
  • Everyday handling
  • Holstering and drawing
  • Transferring or inspecting a firearm

Safety is reinforced throughout the entire class. It is not treated as a single opening topic that is forgotten once shooting begins.

Handgun Fundamentals

Instruction may include:

  • Grip
  • Stance
  • Sight alignment
  • Sight picture
  • Trigger control
  • Breathing
  • Follow-through
  • Recoil management
  • Consistent pistol presentation

These fundamentals support accuracy, control, and safe handling.

Reloads and Malfunction Clearing

Students practice loading, reloading, and clearing common pistol malfunctions.

The goal is to understand what the firearm is doing, respond safely, and complete each technique without panic or unsafe movement.

Defensive Shooting Skills

The course may include one-handed shooting, close-quarters fundamentals, handgun retention concepts, verbal commands, and decision-based drills.

Students learn that personal protection requires judgment, awareness, communication, restraint, and safe firearm handling. It is not based only on shooting speed or accuracy.

Colorado Law and Legal Considerations

The legal portion discusses current Colorado law related to carrying a concealed handgun, interactions with law enforcement, use of force, and the responsibilities that may follow a defensive incident.

This portion of the class is educational and is not a substitute for personal legal advice.

Holster and Equipment Selection

Students receive guidance on choosing a safe holster and setting up equipment for their intended carry method.

A suitable holster should protect the trigger, retain the handgun, and support safe access without creating unnecessary risk.

Denver Firearms Training

Are Beginners Welcome in Denver Firearms Classes?

Yes. Many Denver students delay firearms training because they are nervous, have never handled a gun, or are worried that they will slow down the class.

Ragnar Tactical regularly teaches first-time shooters and builds the learning process around patience, safety, and steady improvement.

You do not need to arrive with advanced knowledge. Instructors explain the basics, answer questions, demonstrate each technique, and support students as they develop their comfort level.

The goal is to create a welcoming environment where students can learn without embarrassment, pressure, or judgment. Classes are structured to be safe, educational, and fun while maintaining professional standards.

Experienced shooters also benefit from returning to the fundamentals. An instructor may identify grip problems, inconsistent trigger control, inefficient reloads, unsafe handling, or other habits that can be difficult to recognize during independent range practice.

Denver Firearms Training

What Training Is Available for Experienced Shooters?

Firearms skills can decline when they are not practiced correctly. Advanced and refresher courses give experienced shooters a structured way to review fundamentals and continue developing.

Students interested in higher-level training can work on tactical skills such as:

  • Movement
  • Cover and concealment
  • One-handed techniques
  • Low-light shooting
  • Positional shooting
  • Multiple-target drills
  • Defensive rifle handling
  • Shotgun handling
  • Stress-based exercises
  • Realistic decision-making scenarios

Rifle, carbine, shotgun, self-defense, and specialized response courses provide additional paths for continued education.

Training progression should match your current skills. Complete the recommended prerequisites and contact Ragnar Tactical before registering if you are unsure which course is appropriate.
